At the core of the Model 818 is Zoeller’s Tri‑Slice®, constructed from hardened 440C stainless steel and designed to produce a scissor‑style cutting action. This system efficiently shreds sewage solids down to a slurry, enabling smooth transport through small‑diameter sewer piping. The grinder assembly is paired with a vortex impeller featuring an engineered glass‑filled plastic body and stainless‑steel insert to balance efficiency with abrasion resistance.

The pump’s 1 HP oil‑filled motor provides excellent thermal management, allowing the unit to run cooler during extended grinding cycles. All major structural components—including the motor housing and pump housing—are constructed from cast iron and protected by a powder‑coated epoxy finish for corrosion resistance. Stainless‑steel hardware, a stainless‑steel motor shaft, and carbon/ceramic mechanical seals further enhance durability in aggressive wastewater environments.

The Model 818 is available in automatic and nonautomatic configurations. Automatic versions utilize a variable‑level float switch for dependable cycling, while nonautomatic models integrate seamlessly with simplex or duplex grinder control panels for engineered installations.
